KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — CIU's men's soccer fell 5-2 on the road Saturday, as their visit to Johnson (Tenn.) ended in a difficult defeat.
Johnson struck early, jumping out to a lead before CIU answered back. The Rams cut into the deficit in the 67th minute when
Josue Pirela found the back of the net to make it 4-1. CIU then scored in the 84th minute on a goal by Victor Gonzalaz.
It was to little to late however as the Rams came up short 5-2.
Statistically, CIU matched up respectably. The Rams recorded 16 shots, with 7 on goal, while battling Johnson's pressure throughout. Defensively, CIU's backline was tested repeatedly and goalkeeper
Vasilios Diakomihalis faced significant pressure.
With the loss, CIU's record drops to 4-3-1 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play. Meanwhile, the defeat ends their six-game winning streak against the Royals.
CIU is back on the road on Wednesday, Oct. 8, to take on Truett McConnell on their turf in Cleveland, Ga., at 7:00 p.m. ET.
