BLUEFIELD, Va. — CIU women's volleyball continued its impressive run on Friday night, earning its ninth straight victory with a sweep of Bluefield University (25-14, 25-9, 25-17) in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. The win marked the Rams' fifth straight victory over Bluefield.
CIU (14-5, 10-1 AAC) dominated on both sides of the net, hitting .259 as a team while holding Bluefield to a -.093 hitting percentage. The Rams were sharp from the start, posting a .343 hitting percentage in the opening set and controlling the match throughout.
Senior middle blocker
Lydia Gustafson led CIU with six kills on a .600 hitting percentage while recording a match-high seven total blocks.
Mary Norwood added seven kills and two block assists, while
Eevy Bellar tallied five kills and three block assists.
Zcearia James also added six kills for the Rams.
Setter
Macy Brooks dished out 13 assists and recorded two service aces, while
Skylar Dewhirst added nine assists off the bench. Libero
Kelcey Mangum collected 11 digs, and Lesiray Nazario Marrero added a team-high 13 digs to lead the back row. CIU totaled 10 team blocks in the sweep.
The Rams will look to make it 10 straight wins on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they travel to Pikeville, Ky., to face Pikeville University at 9 a.m. ET.
