COLUMBIA, S.C. — The CIU men's soccer team came up short at home on Saturday, falling 2–0 to Milligan University (Tenn.).
Milligan broke the deadlock 54:02 into the second half, and added an insurance goal at 65:05. Despite those two strikes, CIU's back line and goalkeeper had few lapses, but the Rams were unable to muster enough pressure or finish quality chances to keep pace.
CIU managed just five total shots, with Victor Gonzalez, Elijah Branham, and Ian Rau among those attempting to spark the offense. None found the back of the net. On the defensive end, goalkeeper Vasillios Diakomihalis made 11 saves, doing what he could to keep the Rams in the contest. The team was outshot 26–5 and was also edged in corner kicks 11–4.
Nathan King and Victor Gonzalez each drew yellow cards in the second half. While the Rams competed, they couldn't convert and were undone by two well-timed goals from the visitors.
With the loss, CIU falls to 4–5–1 overall and 3–5–1 in conference play. Next up, the Rams will aim to bounce back next Wednesday, Oct. 15 against cross-town rival Columbia College.
