SPARTANBURG—The CIU men's cross country team kicked off its 2024 season with a competitive debut at the 2024 Eye Opener Collegiate Cross Country meet on Friday. Competing against primarily NCAA Division I and II schools, the Rams had a trio of upperclassmen represent them at the meet.

Sophomore Joey Canning led the way for CIU, posting the team's fastest time of 29:35.05 in the 8k race. Veteran distance runner Gavin Barfield followed closely behind with a time of 30:43.60. Rounding out the Rams' lineup was Malik Beaver, who finished with a time of 31:53.41.

Up Next: The Rams return to Hub City on Sept. 21 to participate in the 2024 Converse Kick-off.
