COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU baseball took the field to kick off their final Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series against No. 9 Reinhardt University (Ga.). The Rams are on the cusp of making it into the conference tournament and need at least one win in the series to secure a postseason bid. After being held to just two hits, the Rams fell in seven innings to the Eagles.
Game One: RU 15 CIU 0: The Eagles threatened to score in the first with bases loaded and no outs, but two strikeouts from Tanner Bridges and a groundout kept them off the board. Reinhardt started their scoring in the top of the second with a solo homer and then added four more between the second and third innings to lead 5-0. Colton Lopez broke up the no-hitter with a double in the bottom of the fourth, but he was left stranded. Reinhardt pushed across five more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a ten-run advantage and get into run-rule territory. The Eagles secured the run-rule win for game one after five more runs in the seventh despite a two-out hit from Scott McDonough in the bottom of the frame.
