GRAYSON, KY. - CIU baseball hit the road to take on Kentucky Christian University on Friday afternoon to kick off their second to last Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) series. The Rams took a lead in the first inning, but secured the win with a nine-run third inning. CIU secured the run-rule win to improve to 17-28 overall and 9-16 in conference play.
Game One: CIU 12 KCU 2: Scott McDonough got the Rams on the board with a two-RBI double in the first inning. CIU busted things open in the third after scoring nine runs off of seven hits aided by few defensive miscues from the Knights. McDonough singled in the fifth to add another run for the Rams as they led 12-0. KCU added two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough to prevent the run-rule defeat.
Box Score Highlights:
- McDonough led the team with three hits and a season-high of six RBI.
- David Mora also had three hits, while Colton Lopez chipped in two of his own.
- Matthew Garris picked up the win after allowing four hits and no runs in 5.0 innings of work.
