Game Recap: Baseball | | hwilkerson

Three homers and 15 hits not enough for Rams to overcome Seahawks

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. - After dropping game one of the series against Keiser, the Rams took the field on Friday for a doubleheader and fell behind early in both to go down 14-7 and 11-3. CIU is now 0-6 on the season and is looking to take game four to pick up their first win of the season.

Game Two

Keiser 14 CIU 7: A two-RBI single for Collin Greer got the Rams on the board in the first inning, but this lead was shortlived as the Seahawks responded with six runs of their own. Connor Shealy hit a two-out double to score three runs and bring CIU within one (6-5). Keiser went down scoreless in the second and third but tacked on six more runs in the bottom of the fourth and two in the fifth to extend their lead to 14-5. Aidan Pridgen homered in the sixth, and Darius Hatchette-Dunn got hit by a pitch to bring a run in in the seventh, but the Rams could not bring enough across to forge a comeback.

Box Score Highlights:

  • Greer led the Rams with two hits, and five others collected one.

  • Shealy recorded three RBI, and Pridgen hit his first collegiate home run.

Game Three

Keiser 11 CIU 3: Once again, CIU took the lead in the top of the first after a single from Britton Morris, but Keiser answered with four runs off of three hits and an error. Emmanuel Maldonado went yard in the top of the second to cut the lead to 4-2. Both teams were quiet until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Seahawks added five to take a 9-2 lead. Jordan Murphy homered on the first pitch of the eighth inning to give the Rams another run, and the Skyhawks scored two more in the bottom of the inning. CIU got two runners on in the top of the ninth, but a strikeout and ground out prevented any runs from coming across.

Box Score Highlights:

  • Maldonado led with two hits, one being his first home run of the season.

  • Six others recorded a hit.

  • Matthew Garris started on the mound, striking out five and allowing four hits in four innings.

Up Next: CIU closes out their trip to Florida with game four tomorrow, Feb. 10, at 11:00 a.m EST.
