DAYTON, Tenn. - CIU softball entered Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play on Friday and nearly stole a game from Bryan College but ultimately dropped two in the AAC doubleheader. With the losses, the Rams drop to .500 on the year at 6-6 overall and 0-2 in league action.
GAME ONE: BC 2 CIU 1: Miranda Fulmer started in the circle and was impressive per usual, but the Lions did add two runs on a double and a passed ball in the second inning. The runs were not enough to damper CIU's spirits, however, as the Rams trimmed the deficit in the next inning as Megan Stolzenbach scored on a Caydon Thompson RBI single. Both teams were held scoreless until the seventh when CIU loaded the bases, and the Scarlett Traver would even the score 2-2, crossing the plate on a Josie Self ground-out. Unfortunately for CIU, things changed in favor of the Lions at the bottom of the inning as they scored the game-winning run on a double.
BOX SCORE HIGHLIGHTS:
- Miranda Fulmer hit the double-digit strikeout mark yet again with 10 K's in 6.2 innings of work.
- Thompson and Self each had a RBI while the Rams posted four hits as a team.
GAME TWO: BC 4 CIU 0: Sydnee Dial was superb through five innings, allowing just one hit. However, the tide turned in the sixth as the Lions picked up three hits and scored four runs. Lilli Petty would get on base on an error in the top of the seventh, but it was Ram's last glimmer of hope offensively as the Lions picked up the next three outs in quick succession.
BOX SCORE HIGHLIGHTS:
- Dial pitched the entirety of the contest, posting six strikeouts and allowing five hits.
- Carmella Korte tallied both of the Ram's hits, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
UP NEXT: The Rams have a quick turnaround facing Tennessee Wesleyan in Athens, Tenn. with a doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, Feb 24. beginning at 1:00 p.m. EST.
