GRAYSON, Ky. - Five players scored in double-figures on Saturday as CIU men's basketball chalked up their second Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) road win of the season, dispatching Kentucky Christian (KCU) 85-66. CIU now holds a 6-1 overall record and a 3-1 mark in AAC competition.
KCU was able to keep pace with the Rams for the majority of the first half. The Ram's largest lead in the game's first 20 minutes was six points as Brandon Hunt knocked down two free throws to bring the score to 37-31 at the 2:40 mark. The Knights closed the half on an 8-2 run to knot things up at 39-39 at the break.
The second half told a different story as the Rams slowly but surely began to pull away, taking a double-digit lead for the first time 75-64 (4:50) on a Will Kelly layup. From there, it was all CIU as the Rams ended the game on a 10-2 run, resulting in the 19-point win.
Kelly led all scorers Saturday with a season-high 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field. Christian Howard continues to be a force inside, as he scored 17. Hunt, Reid Warga, and Jeffrey Clark II rounded out the scoring, each posting ten.
Clark II and Hunt led the Rams in rebounding, as each player secured seven boards.
