COLUMBIA - The last three Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Volleyball Tournament Championship matches have been played between Bryan (Tenn.) and CIU, and the two met for the first time this season on Saturday in the friendly confines of the Moore Fitness Center. Bryan tested the Rams throughout the first and second sets, but the dominoes ultimately fell in favor of CIU as the Rams swept the Lions 25-23, 25-21, 25-13. The Rams hold a 23-2 overall record and a 13-1 mark in conference competition.
The Rams won the serve-and-receive battle as CIU posted six aces while yielding just one to the opposition.
Melissa Campos Soto recorded three of those aces to go along with a double-double of 19 assists and ten digs.
Kamelia De Jesus contributed from the setter position as well, with 16 assists, while
Kelcey Mangum led CIU with 15 digs.
The Ram's offense was bolstered by
Hadassah Davis and
Katie Camp, who each had 13 kills as CIU hit .311 as a team.
Lydia Gustafson added to what has been a stellar defensive season, recording six blocks for the second match in a row.
