Rams bounce back to overcome St. Andrews

LAURINBURG, S.C. - After falling 0-2 in the series, the Rams had to bounce back to pick up a conference win against St. Andrews University (N.C.). CIU came out firing on all cylinders and did not relinquish the lead once in this afternoon's contest.

GAME THREE: CIU SAU: James Lovera gave the Rams an early lead, hitting a solo shot on the game's first pitch. Britton Morris added three more runs after a bases-loaded double to give CIU four runs in the first inning. They tacked on another in the second after an RBI single from Brandt Miller. St. Andrews scratched their first run of the game in the second, but Ram's offense exploded in the third, scoring eight runs off of four hits, four walks, and an error from the Knights (13-1). After scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning, St. Andrews closed the gap to eight runs, but CIU extended it to nine after scoring a run in the fourth. The Rams added another in the sixth after an error and another in the seventh after a sac fly from Joshua Hernandez, but the Knights scored two of their own in the sixth. St. Andrews pushed one across in the eighth, but CIU still led by eight (16-8). The Rams added one more run, and the Knights added four more in the final inning, but St. Andrews late game push wasn't enough to sweep the series.

Box Score Highlights:

  • Deric Hanko got the start on the rubber, going six innings and striking out four. Brett Collins and Hunter Garris closed out the game for the Rams.
  • Miller continued his impressive weekend at the plate, going 4-for-5 and nine hits on the weekend.
  • Morris picked up three hits, including a double, while Hernandez and Rafael Gonzales had two. Lovera also picked up three walks on the day.

Up Next: CIU has a quick turnaround as they host Bob Jones University (S.C.) on Tuesday, April 4th, at 4 PM.
