SUMTER, S.C. - CIU baseball hit the road for a midweek contest against Morris College (S.C.) for the second time this season. The first contest ended in a 23-9 run rule, and today's outcome was similar. The Rams collected their fourth win of the season after taking down Morris 19-2 in a seven-inning run rule.
CIU jumped on the board in the first inning after an RBI fly-out from Price Alexander and an RBI single from Robert Lybrand. The Rams added four more off three hits and an error to extend their lead to 6-0 in the second. Both teams remained scoreless until CIU's offense exploded and tacked on 12 more runs in the top of the sixth. While only collecting four hits in this inning, the Rams took advantage of two errors and multiple pitching miscues to place themselves in reach of another run rule. Morris made a slight push and added two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth (18-2), but that is all they managed to push across. CIU added another in the top of the seventh after four consecutive walks to seal their run rule victory.
BOX SCORE NOTES:
- James Lovera led the Rams at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two RBI in his first start of the season.
- Alexander and Shane Hammonds both notched two hits a piece with a combined seven RBI.
- Christian Orr got the start on the rubber, striking out three in one inning pitched, while Hunter Garris got the win with two strikeouts.
