KISSIMMEE, Fla. - CIU women's soccer continued their run at the NCCAA National Championship tournament with their last pool game against No. 3 Southern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) on Wednesday. Both teams entered the contest off of dominant victories over Regent University. Despite a tight match in the first half, the Lions would break away and take a 3-0 win. The squad finishes their historic season with a program-best 13-7-1 record.
Match Summary: Things got going early in the Rams' defensive end, as Hailey Resetar picked up her first save three minutes into the contest. The Lions took six corner kicks and multiple shots before Lily Jackson took CIU's first attempt. Jackson attempted two additional shots that could not find the net, keeping the deadlocked at zero at the break.
SAGU came into the second half on a mission and fired four shots before they found the back of the net (55:24) to take the lead. Five minutes later, they added another for a 2-0 edge over the Rams. Abby Roloff and Alexa Thoman made attempts that the Lions' keeper hauled in.
The Lions continued pulling away from the Rams with a third unanswered goal (72:09). Ellie Berkemeyer and Jackson took two shots in the game's final minutes to prevent a shutout but could not get it past the keeper.
CIU was held to only seven shots, with Jackson leading the way with four.
