COLUMBIA - As the 2023 regular season begins to come to a close, CIU volleyball celebrated Senior Day at their match on Saturday. The Rams honored their seniors by sweeping Kentucky Chrisitan (25-7, 25-9, 25-9). The Rams continue to hold to their program's best single-season win percentage as they move 27-1 overall and 18-1 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The win essentially clinches the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Regular-Season Championship for the Rams, but the title will not be official until after the CIU's match with St. Andrews (N.C.) on Tuesday.
In Saturday's match, serving made a difference, as the Rams recorded seven service aces while not giving up one themselves. Senior Alana Sanjurjo led the Rams in aces with three, while Kamelia De Jesus added two service aces.
Kira Rymer Attaway led the Rams in kills with 12, while Abbey Kleist was formidable on Senior Day with nine of her own kills. Sanjurjo contributed offensively for the Rams with eight kills.
Libero Carla Cauchi picked up seven assists for CIU while tallying double-digit digs with ten. De Jesus recorded a double-double with 24 assists and 12 digs.
What Coach Katie Weiss is saying: "We have some amazing seniors on this team, so it was awesome to honor them with a win today. It's hard to believe we only have one match left in the regular season. We will get some rest tomorrow and then begin to prepare for St. Andrews and the AAC Tournament.
Up Next: The Rams host St. Andrews (N.C.) on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 6:30 p.m. in the 2023 regular-season finale.
