Unblemished Rams begin Tennessee road trip with win over Bulldogs

ATHENS, Tenn. - CIU women's volleyball's win total climbed even higher on Friday evening as the Rams defeated the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-22). The longest win streak by any CIU athletic team continues as the Rams move to 23-0 overall and 14-0 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. The Rams are currently 51-3 in their last 54 AAC regular season matches.

Despite controlling the match from first serve to the final point, the Rams' team hitting percentage was penciled in under their season average as CIU hit at a .266 clip. The Rams did have three players with double-figure kills as Gracen Norris and Hanah Weiss each tallied 11, and Kira Rymer Attaway chalked up ten. Norris was excellent offensively, with a .450 hitting percentage.

Alana Sanjurjo was all over the floor for CIU, with 19 digs along with two aces. Kelcey Mangum continued in her role as one of the centerpieces of the Rams' defensive effort with 15 digs, while setter Kamelia De Jesus added another double-double with 15 digs and 16 assists. De Jesus' teammate Melissa Campos Soto helped keep the offensive humming with 17 assists of her own from the setter spot.

The Rams did not record a reception error on the evening, not allowing a single ace out of the Bulldogs.

What Coach Katie Weiss is saying: "Getting off the bus after a five-hour road trip and going out and competing at a high level can be difficult. We didn't play a perfect match by any means, but I am satisfied with another conference sweep and ready for a challenging match with Bryan tomorrow."

Up Next: CIU faces bitter AAC rival Bryan College (Tenn.) in a rematch of last season's conference championship match. The competition gets underway at 1:00 p.m. EST in Dayton, Tenn.
