COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU men's soccer returned to the pitch in their second contest of the season and first at Sessions Field, Monday night against Brewton-Parker (Ga.). The match proved to be a physical battle between the two squads in a non-conference showdown. The Ram took a two-goal lead into the break, but the Barons stormed back to tie the game in the latter part of the second half. However, CIU responded and would ultimately come up victorious with a 4-2 win in their home opener.
Scoring Summary:
The Ram's offense came out of the gate aggressive in the first period, attacking the Barons defense. After a couple of missed opportunities early,
Marlon Williams struck on an assist from
Sohya Yamamoto. Later in the period,
Praise Kabwe found the back of the net at the 25:25 minute mark on an assist from
Juan Ospina. As a result, the Rams took a 2-0 lead into the break.
Brewton-Parker began their comeback in the second period of play with goals from Jade Oliver (50:25) and Sven De Heij (78:44) to tie the contest up at two goals a piece. However, CIU's
Daniel Ospina would quickly shift the momentum back into CIU's favor with a goal just moments later to retake the lead. The Rams would then add another goal by way of
Zion Atkinson on an assist from
Sohya Yamamoto to stretch their advantage and ultimately win the game 4-2.
