No. 22 CIU records best start to AAC play in program history with win over Eagles

COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU volleyball avenged a loss from last season to Reinhardt (Ga.) on Friday as they defeated the Eagles 3-1(25-11, 25-20, 28-26, 25-18). The win gives the Rams their best start to Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play in the program history, moving CIU to 7-0 in the conference. The Rams remain one of only two unbeaten teams in the AAC for the 2022 season.

Despite a feisty Eagles team who stole a set three win, the Rams looked the part of the best team in the AAC. Setter Kamelia De Jesus eclipsed her season-high in assists with 51, just four assists short of her career-high of 55. Kira Rymer led the Rams with 17 kills, while Alana Sanjurjo added 16 kills; however, the story of the match was Mardi Scutchings, who came off the bench in the fourth set to record eight kills. Once again, the Rams saw a team effort defensively, with four players tallying double-digit digs and CIU picking up 18 block assists and six solo blocks as a team. Jadaeya Morrell may have had the most complete game for CIU as the Canadian native notched eight kills and five blocks.

Up Next: The Rams will wrap up a four-match homestand beginning with Milligan College (Tenn.) on Friday, Sept. 30 at 6:30 PM.
