GRAYSON, Ky. A massive ninth inning for CIU baseball helped them finish off Kentucky Christian (KCU) on Friday in their series finale with the Knights. CIU (19-27, 9-27 AAC) defeated KCU (25-21, 5-19 AAC) by a score of 17-8, which gave the Rams the 2-1 series win. The victory is extremely important for CIU as they battle for a spot in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) postseason tournament.
The Rams jumped out on the Knights early, leading 4-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. CIU extended that advantage all the way out to 8-1 in the seventh before the Knights began to battle back. KCU cut the lead all the way down to 9-6 and had the tying run at-bat in the bottom of the eighth before CIU was able to put an end to the inning.
The Rams squashed any idea of a comeback in the ninth, as CIU scored eight runs in the final inning, two of which came off a Britton Morris home run.
BOX SCORE NOTES:
- It was a career day for Britton Morris, who went 3-for-5 with six RBI's, including two home runs.
- Grant Bodison notched a homer of his own, going 3-for-5 as well.
- Robert Bell recorded his fifth home run of the season while tallying three hits in six at-bats.
- CIU had 14 hits as a team.
- Christian Orr was impressive through six innings giving up one earned run while sitting down eight batters on strikeouts.
Up Next: CIU will face a tall task as they head to Georgia Gwinnett on Friday, April. 22 for a three-game non-conference series.
