COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU baseball continued their dominance against NCCAA opponents on Tuesday night as defeated by Bob Jones (S.C.) 13-3 at Miller Field. The Rams only have one loss all-time against an NCCAA opponent, which was a loss to Trinity Baptist (Fla.) in February of 2020. With the win, CIU moves to 7-14 overall while Bob Jones continues to look for their first win of the season, falling to 0-8.
Freshman Britton Morris put CIU on the board with his first career home run in the bottom of the second inning. Bob Jones responded with three runs in the top of the third, including a two-run homer. From then, it was all Rams; as a four-run third inning and a six-run fourth inning put CIU up by 11-3. The two-inning burst of runs was highlighted by homers from Joshua Hernandez and Ward Hacklen. Robert Bell ended the game in the bottom of the seventh inning on a RBI-single which run-ruled the game 13-3.
BOX SCORE NOTES:
- Joshua Hernandez and Ward Hacklen each hit their third homeruns of the year as Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a double while Hacklen went 3-for-5 with a double and a triple.
- Britton Morris continues to impress as the newcomer had a solid outing going 2-for-4 with a homerun and two RBI's.
- Mason Lynch got the win in the first action that he has seen this season on the mound, not allowing a hit while recording a strikeout in two innings.
What Coach Johnson is saying:
"I was really pleased with the adjustments several guys made at the plate tonight. We are getting really close to being the team I believe we can be."
