Waleska, Ga - CIU men's basketball continued Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play by taking a trip to face off against Reinhardt (Ga.) on Saturday. The last time these teams met was in last season's AAC tournament, where CIU knocked Reinhardt out of the postseason. Tonight, however, a second-half comeback for the Rams forced the game into overtime, but they would come up short, 83-77. CIU is now 4-5 on the season and 3-3 in conference play.
Reinhardt took the lead a few minutes into the game, and maintained control for most of the first half. CIU trailed by four (30-34) at the break. The Rams came out stronger offensively in the latter portion of the contest, putting up 39 second-half points. However, the Rams were not able to pull away and traded baskets with the Eagles throughout the final 20 minutes of regulation. CIU was down by two with five seconds remaining in regulation when
DiAnthony Heathcock was fouled and made both free throws to tie the game and force overtime.
The Rams took the lead at the 2:46 minute mark during the extra period, but six overtime-fouls allowed the Eagles to score eight points and pull out a win.
Heathcock collected another double by scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Jalen Brinson,
Darrian Oates, and
Skyler McKinney each scored 12 points against the Eagles.
Christian Howard was successful off the bench, shooting 4-of-6 (66.7%) from the field to score nine points. As a team, the Rams were 29-of-73 (39.7%) from the field and 7-of-29 (24.1%) from behind the arc.
