Men's Soccer forces draw to advance to NCCAA semifinal round

KISSIMMEE, Fla- CIU men's soccer came up clutch once again Wednesday night as the Rams scored two late goals to force a draw with Southwestern Christian (Okla.) and propel themselves to the semifinals of the NCCAA Men's Soccer Championship. With the draw, CIU moves to 14-4-5 overall and will reach the NCCAA semifinals for the second consecutive season.

Scoring Summary: The Rams' second game of pool play followed an eerily similar trajectory to their match on Monday. Once again, CIU would fall behind, this time by two scores, with goals coming in the 25' minute and 39' minute for the Eagles. The Rams would fire off 12 shots in the first frame but were unable to notch a score. The majority of the second frame was also eaten away before the Rams finally mounted their comeback in the 76' minute, with Juan Ospina scoring off a rebounded shot from Bryan Molina. Just a few moments later (83'), the Rams evened the game on a diving header from Sonny Quintanilla off a Marlon Williams cross. The Eagles and Rams then played to a draw as both teams will advance to the semifinals. CIU ended the match showcasing a potent offensive attack with a total of 22 shots, as Lucas Galdino led the way with three shots-on-goal.

What Coach Bill Brindley is saying: "Proud of the boys for again showing great persistence for the second straight match. We have done enough to move on to the next round; hopefully, we can put together a complete match in the semifinal.

Up Next: The Rams will take on Campbellsville University (Ky.) on Friday, Dec. 2 at 5:00 PM, with a trip to the NCCAA Championship on the line.
