Women's Soccer begins NCCAA Championship Pool Play with slip-up versus Redhawks

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - CIU women's soccer began pool play at the 2022 NCCAA Women's Soccer Championship on Monday as the No. 8 overall seed. The Rams took on Coach Kara Lail's alma mater, the No. 2 seed Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.). The Redhawks are an NCAA Division II school out of the East Coast Conference. Despite a much stronger second half, the first frame was the Rams' downfall as CIU fell 4-0 to open pool play.

Scoring Summary: The first frame set the tone for the game as the Redhawks rattled off 15 shots against CIU in the match's first 45' minutes. Four of those shots would find the back of the net for Roberts, with all four goals coming under the 30' minute mark of the first frame. CIU buckled down in the second frame and were only outshot 6-5 after the break. Amber McKinley was a force on offense with three shots, two of which were on goal, while Mazzie Leos recorded two shots on goal of her own. Julianna Bost played the game's entirety in the goal with six saves.

Up Next: The Rams will continue pool play, taking on No. 5 seed Carolina (N.C) tomorrow, Nov. 29, at 3:30 PM.
