CIU reaches double-digit conference wins with sweep of Skyhawks

WEST POINT, Ga. - CIU volleyball secured another milestone Friday as they reached double-digit wins in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-21) win over Point (Ga.). The win puts CIU at 10-0 in the conference and 20-6 overall. This is the third consecutive year that the Rams have won 20 or more games in a season. CIU also had an individual accomplishment occur Friday evening as Kira Rymer became the first player in program history to record 1,000 kills.

Despite the sweep, CIU was tested in set two by the Skyhawks trailing 12-9 but quickly bounced back and ultimately recorded the victory in the match. CIU was led by Rymer, who was potent hitting the ball with 17 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Jadaeya Morrell was the other Ram with double-digit kills with ten and a .444 hitting percentage. Kamelia De Jesus was productive setting for CIU with 36 assists, while defensive specialist Kelcey Mangum had five aces to go along with 14 digs. Alana Sanjurjo added double-digit digs with ten to accompany six kills.

What Coach Amber Haver is saying: "Compliments to Coach Pearson as she continues to build up her program. Point gets better each time we see them.  Proud of the effort tonight and proud of Kira for recording 1,000 kills. We got off the bus after a fairly long trip and these ladies put in the work early to solidify the sweep. Got a little complacent at the end there.  We'll clean that up tomorrow. "

Up Next: CIU will head across Georgia for a rematch with Reinhardt (Ga.) on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 4 PM.
