DAYTON, Tenn. - CIU Men's Soccer headed to Tennessee for a contest on the pitch with the Bryan College Lions on Saturday. The program sought its first-ever win over Bryan, dropping all four of their previous meetings with the Lions. However, CIU snapped that streak Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 win on the road. The Rams improve to 9-3-3 on the season and 8-2-2 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).
Scoring Summary:
Bryan jumped on the Rams first with a goal four minutes into the match to take the lead. They would carry that lead into the half-time break. The Rams were outshot in the first frame 12-3, unable to put any scoring chances together.
CIU would turn it around in the second half, starting with a goal by Igor Eduardo in the 48' minute. Later in the period, Fabio Bender would strike for CIU to take the lead. However, Bender was not done scoring, recording the brace on an assist by Sohya Yamamoto to increase the Ram's lead to two scores. Bryan would add a goal inside the 81' minute mark to cut the lead in half, but CIU held on to win their first-ever matchup over the Lions.
What Coach Bill Brindley is saying:
"Pleased with the player's response today. After a sluggish first half, the guys turned it around and battled back."
