COLUMBIA, S.C.— CIU women's soccer stepped up to the pitch on Wednesday to face off against St. Andrews (N.C.) for their last regular-season home game of the 2022 season. The Rams had a successful senior night with a 3-1 win over the Knights. The Rams are now 7-5-3 on the season and 5-5-2 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play.
Scoring Summary:
Mazzie Leos got CIU on the board at the 18:09 minute mark with her third goal of the season. SAU answered at the 42:03 minute mark to bring the score to 1-1 right before the half. Both teams played strong defense in the first half, as the Rams were only able to attempt five shots on goal, while the Knights only took four. Ten minutes into the second half,
Marisa Dill found the back of the net to give CIU a 2-1 lead, then
Mercy Berkemeyer extended the Ram advantage to 3-1 at the 66:45 minute mark. Remarkably junior
Amber McKinley assisted on all three goals for CIU.
Julianna Bost and
Elaine Smith both saw time in the goal as Bost collected two saves and Smith collected one.
