Men's Soccer gains win over Skyhawks in midweek matchup

COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU men's soccer took the pitch on Wednesday night for a contest with Point University (Ga.). The Rams looked to get back on track with a win after dropping their last match to Reinhardt (Ga.) a week ago.

Scoring Summary:
As usual, CIU began the first frame on the attack and applying pressure on the Skyhawk's backline. Marlon Williams put the Ram's first goal in on a ball that trickled through Point defense and snuck past the keeper just inside the left post.

Point's offensive began to take control, putting together several scoring chances on some miscommunication from the CIU's defensive front. However, Vitor Maciel made his presence known in those moments with several impressive saves.

CIU began to take back control of the time of possessions. The Rams made some promising runs that didn't quite find the back of the net. CIU would eventually add a goal to their lead on a score from Lucas Galdino in the 28' minute, which was assisted by Praise Kabwe

In the latter portion of the first frame, the Rams found themselves with another opportunity to strike. In the 32' minute, Kabwe was fouled inside the box after knifing through several Skyhawk defenders. He would then attempt a penalty kick which was saved by the Point keeper. The Rams were then content to play at a slower pace as the time expired to end the first period.

CIU had some early scoring chances in the opening minutes of the second frame, most notably in the 52' minute, where Bryan Molina began a breakaway with a numbers advantage for CIU. The ball ended up in Fabio Bender's possession, where he was taken down by the Skyhawks defender resulting in another penalty kick for the Rams. However, CIU would not be denied this time as Bender placed the ball outside the keeper's grasp to move the score to 3-0.

Point would add a late goal in garbage time to cut their deficit down to two; however, none more as CIU added another conference win to their season total.
