GREENVILLE, S.C. - The CIU women's soccer team fell short Tuesday night in a matchup against Bob Jones University (S.C.), losing to the Bruins 3 to 5. Coach
Kara Farnsworth Lail's squad moves to 3-1 on the season and 1-1 against NCCAA opponents.
Scoring Summary:
The Rams came into Tuesday's match undefeated and outscoring their opponents 12 to 2. Reigning Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Offensive Player of the week
Mercy Berkemeyer would continue where she left off last week, scoring the first goal of the game at the 3:24 mark, assisted by
Sara Fragomeni and
Leaoness Hinojos. The Bruins would answer with a goal of their own by Kayle Stevenson about five minutes later. Then, Mia Marks of the Bruins would strike again at the 15:46 mark, making the score 2 to 1. The Bruins would continue their scoring run with a goal by Brinkley Adams. The Rams would stop the Bruin's three-goal run with a goal just after the 33:00 minute, making it just a one-score game going into the half.
Brinkley Adams of the Bruins would strike again at the 55:59 minute mark in the second period to put her team up 4 to 2. Next, the Rams were on the attack when a foul would be called in the box resulting in a penalty kick which midfielder
Arianna Elliott would put in, lowering their deficit to just one. However, the Bruins would answer again with a goal just past the 81:00 minute. Unfortunately, the navy and gold could not answer after that score and would come up short for the first time this season.
What Coach Kara Farnsworth Lail is saying:
"Playing at Bob Jones is always difficult. We were pleased with how the girls continued to fight to the very end. Not the outcome we wanted but we will learn and grow from it."
