Men's Soccer shuts out Bob Jones in home victory

COLUMBIA, S.C - CIU men's soccer welcomed Bob Jones University (S.C.) to Sessions Field Tuesday night. The Rams came into the contest 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). The Bruins came in with a 4-1-1 record on their season. The Rams would defeat the Bruins 2 to 0, remaining undefeated in 2021.

Scoring Summary:
The weather played a crucial factor in the match as heavy rainfall would start in the first half creating undesirable field conditions that lasted throughout the game. Romulo Barreto would strike first for the Rams at the 28:54 minute mark to put the CIU on top. The Rams and the Bruins would continue to battle defensively, but neither team could score as the half ended in a 1-0 Rams' advantage.

In the second half, the Rams would capitalize at the 52:56 minute mark, as Bryan Molina headed the ball into the right side of the net. The goal came off of a corner kick beautifully placed into the box by Lucas Galdino, who was awarded the assist. The game became more physical as time continued to run. There were eight yellow cards given out, five of those coming in the second half. However, neither squad could take advantage of the free kicks given, and the Rams seized the victory, 2-0 over the Bruins.

What Coach Bill Brindley is saying:
"We started slowly in sloppy weather conditions at the beginning of the match, but we showed a lot of resilience and maturity to take the lead in the first half. We will enjoy this win, but still have a lot of work ahead of us as we move into the meat of the conference schedule."

What's Next:
The Rams will take the field next on Saturday, Sept. 25, in Cleveland, Georgia, for a game against AAC rival Truett McConnell University (GA.) at 6 PM.
