GAINESVILLE, Ga. - CIU volleyball played their 14th straight match away from home on Tuesday night as they traveled to Brenau (Ga.) for an Appalachian Athletic Conference contest. The Rams (9-5) have never lost to the Golden Tigers (4-7) but faced a much-approved Brenau squad in Gainesville. After falling down 2 sets to 0, the CIU would pull off one of the biggest comebacks in program history, winning the third set 25-10 and the fourth set 25-21. CIU then took care of business in the final set of the contest dispatching Brenau 15-9 for an epic come-from-behind win.
Abbey Kleist burst back onto the scene for the Rams as she recorded 11 kills to go along with a .417 hitting percentage and 12 digs. The Rams had two other players pick up double-digit kills as well as Kira Rymer tallied 11 and reigning AAC attacker of the week Cintia Lorena picked up 12. Kamelia De Jesus had a double-double with 27 assists and 12 digs while adding to the Rams attack with three kills from the setter position. Defensively, Ingrid Ferrari was stout against the Golden Tiger attack as she had seven total bocks for CIU while Karla Rodriguez led the Rams in digs with 23.Â
What Coach Amber Haver is saying:
"A bit of a slow start off the bus, but we were able to turn it around and have a strong finish. Coach Carter has done a great job building his squad. He has one of the best liberos in the conference and some great hitters that really challenged our defense. We had to make some adjustments on our side. Glad we were able to pull out the win.
Up Next:
The Rams will take on Union (Ky.) in their home opener on Friday, Sept. 14, at 6:30 PM.Â
