Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | sgrigsby

Despite 15 shots Rams unable to overcome Bruins

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The CIU men's soccer team returned home for the first time since 2020, as they hosted upstate rival Bob Jones University. The game between the Rams and the Bruins was initially scheduled and played partially last Wednesday but was called due to lightning with just three minutes to go in the first half. The college-level rules require the game to be restarted completely when rescheduling a contest that was called off due to inclement weather. After a physical game between both squads, Bob Jones was able to squeak past the Rams with a 1-0 win.

Key Plays:

  • The Rams brought pressure early with a shot by Jan Vozab, which was saved by Chris Monczewski.
  • CIU continued to pour on the pressure, with back-to-back attempts from midfielder Romulo Barreto, both sailing wide of the net.
  • Despite solid offensive play, the Rams weren't able to connect any chances in the first half heading into the second half 0-0.
  • The stalemate continued well into the second half until the Bruins struck, scoring the first goal of the contest. BJU midfielder Jordan Crews passed a through ball to Victor Oladipo, who got in behind the Rams defense, getting a one on one opportunity with CIU keeper Hazel Ley. Oladipo converted on the chance, giving the Bruins a 1-0 lead over CIU.
  • The Rams attempted to battle back late in the game, with a Romulo Barreto dribble and shot into the box, but would be saved by backup BJU keeper Bradley Tart.
  • The Bruins defense held strong through the end of the contest, giving the Bruins a road victory over CIU.

Key Players:

  • Jan Vozab contributed with three shots, two on net.
  • Hazel Ley held a strong position in net, securing three saves off of four shots on net for CIU.

Up Next: The Rams head to Shaw University this Saturday at 2 PM.
