Rams get big win over St. Andrews

Laurinburg, NC - The CIU men's soccer team was back on the road on Friday as they looked to get an away victory against St. Andrews University. CIU is coming off of a tough 2-1 loss to Milligan College last week, hoping to get back to winning ways against the Knights. After a long defensive battle with St. Andrews, the Rams closed out a 1-0 win. 

Key Plays 

  • Rahim Gordon got to work early, getting off a shot that went wide in the opening minutes of the contest. 
  • Romulo Barreto had an opportunity but would miss wide from the corner. 
  • With eight minutes left to play in the half, CIU would strike. Rahim Gordon converted on an opportunity, as Romulo Barreto was credited with an assist on the play. 
  • Rams goalkeeper Hazel Ley stopped an opportunity from SAU forward Thiago Mendez, keeping CIU up 1-0. 
  • Hazel Ley had back-to-back saves in the second half, stuffing both Jacob Hancock and Julio Flores-Lazo with 30 minutes left to play. 
  • CIU young freshman goalkeeper Hazel Ley, blocked another back-to-back opportunity from SAU, this time denying Bliss Obodumu and Jacob Hancock. 
  • The Rams defense held strong, holding off the Knights, winning a by a score of 1-0. 

Key Players: 

  • Rahim Gordon had CIU's lone goal of the game, giving the Rams the win. 
  • Hazel Ley played well, holding off the Knights, with seven saves and a clean sheet. 

Up Next: CIU is set to play at home next Saturday against Carolina University at 7 PM.
