Rams fall to Bryan College in doubleheader

DAYTON, Tenn. - The CIU softball team stayed in Tennessee Saturday to play Bryan College. The Rams are fresh off of a series against Tennessee Wesleyan University on Friday. After a disappointing result in Friday's series against the Bulldogs, CIU hoped to bounce back on Saturday. However, CIU would come up empty-handed, losing both contests to the Lions.

Game One: CIU 3 BC 7

  • Bryan College got on the board early in the first, scoring two runs off two batted balls.
  • The Rams answered this early lead in the third inning, scoring two runs to tie the game at two-all. Robyn Andrews hit an RBI single through the hole at second, sending Kendall Parker home for the first run. The second run would be scored in the same sequence as Tanaya Ellis sped home from second base.
  • Bryan College immediately bounced back, however, scoring three runs on three hits in the third inning.
  • CIU kept the game close, scoring another run in the 4th, off of a sac bunt from Ashlee Chinn, scoring Shannon Patton from third.
  • Bryan College extended their lead in 4th, scoring a run off of a sac fly, giving the Lions a 6-3 lead.
  • The home team scored their 7th and final run in the 6th inning, winning the first game 7-3.

Game Two: CIU 3 BC 8

  • The Lions picked up where they left off, scoring one run in the first inning with an RBI single to third base.
  • CIU struck in the 2nd inning, taking their first lead of the game. Ashlee Chinn hit a sac bunt, scoring Heaven Zamora from third. Hannah Brook gave CIU the go-ahead run with an RBI single to center field, sending Shannon Patton from third.
  • Bryan College exploded in the 3rd inning, scoring five runs going up 6-2 over the Rams.
  • The Lions extended their lead in the 6th, scoring two runs off of an error by the CIU shortstop, going up 8-2.
  • The Rams would score one more run in the 7th inning, as Ashlee Chinn headed home after a Tanaya Ellis ground out to first. The Rams couldn't do enough to make up the difference, as they would lose the second game 8-3.

Key Players:

  • Tanaya Ellis tallied two hits, one run, and an RBI on the day.

Up Next: The Rams return home on Wednesday, March 17th, to take on in-town rival Columbia College.
