Rams downed by Milligan in a tightly contested AAC matchup

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. - The CIU men's soccer program kicked off their spring season at Milligan University on a beautiful spring afternoon. The Rams resume play from the fall of 2020, making up this conference game against Milligan, which was postponed last semester due to COVID-19 precautions. CIU hoped to bounce back after going 4-5 in conference play. Despite a well-played match, the Rams would ultimately fall to the Buffalos, 2-1.

Key Plays:

First Half

  • Praise Kabwe got things going for CIU, with a shot on net in the 5th minute of the game. The well-placed touch was saved, however, by Milligan goalkeeper Jan Keupper.
  • Rams winger Praise Kabwe found the back of the net in the 10th minute of the contest, scoring an unassisted goal giving the Rams a 1-0 lead.
  • Milligan College had an answer, however, as Inaki Moreno got one past Hazel Ley to even the game at 1-1.

Second Half

  • Both teams looked to gain the upper hand in the second half. Milligan would strike early in the 50th minute, with a header from Jett Carter to go up 2-1.
  • The Rams attempted to rally late with a shot on goal from Jonathan Muller; however, Milligan keeper Jan Kuepper made the stop, clinching the game for the Buffs.

Key Players:

  • Rams winger Praise Kabwe registered two shots and a goal on the day, giving CIU its lone goal.
  • CIU goalkeeper Hazel Ley came up big with nine saves.
