LAURINBURG, N.C. – The CIU men's basketball team continued pressing on towards the end of the season Monday night as they traveled to St. Andrews University. The Rams would increase their chances of finishing in one of the top two spots in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC), taking care of the Knights 96-74. CIU (13-6) was dominant all evening against St. Andrews (3-11) as the Rams picked up a rare double-digit AAC win.
How It Happened:
First Half: CIU 56 SAU 37: The Rams put forth an offense onslaught from the start of the contest taking a 20-9 lead 8:00 minutes into the game. Brandon Doss then hit one of his four first-half 3-pointers to give CIU a 14-point advantage. Just under 3:00 minutes later, Skyler McKinney drilled back-to-back triples, pushing the lead to 34-17. CIU cruised to the half, leading 56-37 thanks in large part to 22 first-half points from Corey Benton.
Second Half: 96-74: The Knight cut the lead to 72-59 at the 9:53 mark, but five points from Doss, including yet another 3-pointer and a bucket from McKinney, grew the lead to 72-69. Benton got to the rim and the line in the second half as the guard scored 13 points in the final 20:00 minutes of the contest. The Knights never cut the deficit under double-digits, and CIU led from tip to the final horn dismissing St. Andrews 96-74.

What Coach Tony Stockman is saying:
"I am proud of the guys locking in on defense early in the game. We did a great job of getting stops and getting out in transition. We also shared the ball exceptionally well, with 13 assists in the first half. Most importantly, we executed well in the second half to close out the game."
