BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The CIU men's basketball team started what will be a December stretch of the non-conference games on Tuesday night. The Rams played their second NCAA Division I exhibition game of the season as they took on Campbell University (N.C.) out of the Big South Conference.
Campbell is one of the favorites to win the Big South this year and only has two losses so far on the season (7-2), with one of those being an 11-point loss to the No. 2 ranked Duke Blue Devils. The Rams would only trail by ten at the break 38-28, staying pace with the Camels for much of the first half before ultimately falling to Campbell 74-56.
Freshman Devin Pope was a spark for CIU with 12 points off the bench, while both Skyler McKinney and Jalen Brinson were the other two players in double digits, each tallying ten points for the Rams.
CIU out-shot the Camels from deep, going 8-of-22 from beyond the arc, while forcing a dismal 16% 3-point percentage out of Campbell as the Division 1 squad went 3-of-18 from 3-point range. CIU battled with the Camels on the boards as the Rams were only out-rebounded 31-27.
