Women's Soccer comes up just short in AAC Tournament opening round
DAYTON, TENN. - CIU women's soccer took on the 8th seeded Bryan Lions in the first round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament Tuesday evening. The 10th seeded Rams (9-10 overall, 6-7 AAC) entered the game looking for some revenge after the Lions (7-7-1 overall, 7-6-1 AAC) took down the Rams three days prior at Sessions Field 2-1. Unfortunately, the Lions got the best of the Rams once again on their home turf 1-0 and will advance to the tournament's second round.

Scoring Summary:
Similar to their last contest, the Rams and Lions started the game slow offensively in the first 45 minutes. Both teams would take four shots in the first half, but the Lions would edge the Rams in corner kicks 3-0. Several players would take shots on goal, but goalkeeper, Carlie Mason, would come up with the save for the Lions. She, along with CIU's goalkeeper Emily Nelson, would each record three saves in the first half. There was also a significant number of fouls called in the period, totaling 19 before halftime. Neither team would be able to make anything of their chances in the first, and the half would end scoreless.

The Lions would take control of the time of possession early in the second period, with three shots taken in the span of three minutes. Eventually, the Lions would connect on their opportunities with a goal at the 56:53 minute mark on a goal by Macy Gibson. In an attempt to tie the game, the Rams would be on the attack often, getting off five more shots after the Lion's score. However, the Rams were unable to make something of their chances and would come up short to the Lions 1-0 in the first round of the AAC tournament.

What's Next:
The Rams will compete in the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA) South Region Tournament Nov. 18-20 in Lake Wales, Fla.
