Women's Soccer contends with Royals in NCCAA South Region Semifinal

LAKE WALES, FLA. - CIU women's soccer took on No. 3 Seed Warner University (Fla.) in the semifinal of the NCCAA South Region Tournament Wednesday night. The Rams took the field for the first time in over two weeks after following in their last contest to Bryan College (Tenn.) in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament. Unfortunately, the Rams would come up short to the Royals 3-1. The Rams will finish their 2021campaign with a final record of 9-11.

Scoring Summary:
The Rams were down early to the Royals after Mary Doell scored at the 1:35 minute mark on an assist from Blessing Zim. The Royals would get off 13 shots in the first half, but the Rams played stout defense and did not allow another goal in the first period. Ram's goalkeeper Emily Nelson was instrumental as she notched six saves in the half.

Mary Doell would strike again at the 50:04 mark in the second period to give the Royals a 2-0 advantage. Then, Alexus Garcia would add on a goal of her own at the 83:08 minute mark to increase the Royals lead to three. Mazzie Leos gave CIU its first and only goal ten seconds later on an assist from Mercy Berkemeyer. The Royals' 3-1 advantage was too much for the Rams to overcome, however, as CIU fell to Warner.
