COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU women's basketball took perennial Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) power Bryan College (Tenn.) Saturday afternoon. The Rams (1-3 overall, 1-1 AAC) looked to rebound after a tough three-point road loss to Bluefield University (Va.) on Thursday night. However, the Rams came out of the gate slow and couldn't hold off the Lions falling 99-74. As a result, the Rams moved to 1-4 on the season and 1-2 in the AAC.
The Lions got off to a quick start with a commanding ten-point lead five minutes into the first quarter. The Lions would shoot the ball well in the first period to fuel that lead, going 11-of-19 from the floor and 2-of-3 from the three-point line. In contrast, the Rams would struggle to get any rhythm going offensively shooting 4-of-19 from the floor and 2-of-10 from the downtown in the first ten minutes. The Ram shot the ball better for the remaining three quarters but could not hold off hot-shooting Bryan, who would finish the ball game converting on 48.7 percent of their shots and knocking down 14 three-pointers. The Lions would also force 13 CIU turnovers and would convert them into 19 points on the other end.
Freshman guard
Madison Hatcher would lead the Rams in scoring with 17 points off of 6-of-11 shooting, going 4-of-8 from deep. Senior,
Jordin McQueen would tally double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds as
Zion Neat would add 10 points off the bench.
