Spartanburg, S.C. - CIU women's basketball (1-4, 1-2 AAC) stepped out of the NAIA ranks for an exhibition contest against NCAA Division I foe the University of South Carolina-Upstate Spartans (2-1) Friday night. The game was the first-ever meeting between the two squads that are separated by only 100 miles. The Rams shot the ball at a decent clip but couldn't stop the Spartans consistently and would fall 81-40.
Several players got in the box score for the Rams Friday night. Larissa Lee led the way for the Rams with 9 points shooting 3-of-5 from the floor. Madison Hatcher would be not far behind her as she scored 8 points, shooting 3-of-6 on the night. CIU's bench provided a spark keeping up with the Spartans with 17 bench points to their 20.
What Coach Danielle Fleming is saying:
"Played a good Division I team tonight and I thought in spurts we did okay...turnovers hurt us offensively but taking those key points into tomorrow's conference game should help us continue to grow"
