Rams continue dominant run through AAC, taking care of Bulldogs 3-1

COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU men's soccer looked to add another impressive win to their resume on Saturday afternoon as they took on Tennessee Wesleyan University at Sessions Field. The Rams came into the contest 13-0 overall, searching for their 10th conference win of the season. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan are having a good season of their own, with a 9-5-1 record overall and an 8-2 record in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play. The Bulldogs and Rams both received votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll. However, the Rams would continue their dominance, stifling the Bulldog's upset hopes with a 3-1 victory. Saturday's win gives the Rams double-digit wins in conference play for the first time in school history as well as their first-ever win over Tennessee Wesleyan.

Scoring Summary:
The Rams set the tone for the game early, coming out aggressive offensively. They would take command of time of possession and put together multiple scoring opportunities. The first goal for the Rams would come on a penalty kick due to a foul inside the box by the Bulldogs. Romulo Barreto would take the penalty kick and connect to put the Rams up with just under six minutes gone by. The game started to get physical between the two squads as both teams continued to fight in hopes for a key win in the AAC. Neither team would score despite several scoring chances in the first half. The Rams would lead at the half 1-0.

Just 46 seconds into the second half, Tennessee Wesleyan would be called for another foul inside the box. As a result, Romulo Barreto would take the kick again and find the net to give the Rams a 2-0 advantage and his second goal. However, Tennessee Wesleyan would find life at the 72:28 minute mark on a goal from Wynand Wessels to cut the Rams lead down to one. But the Rams would answer as Marlon Williams would head the ball in off of a corner kick played into the box by Romulo Barreto at the 79:50 minute mark. The Rams maintained their two-goal advantage through the period, giving the Rams their 10th conference win of the season.
