COLUMBIA, S.C. – In their second game in as many days, CIU Women's Basketball knocked off their second Appalachian Athletic Conference opponent in a row on Tuesday. The Rams took down the winless St. Andrew Knights (0-12), who dressed only six players for the contest. Although St. Andrews hung around until midway through the fourth quarter CIU (9-10) would win over the Knights 87-71.
How It Happened:
First Half: CIU 33 SAU 24: The Rams finished the first quarter on a 6-2 run but only led 16-10 at the end of the period. CIU went on an 11-1 run in the first 3:00 minutes of the second quarter to take a 25-12 lead, but the Knights scrapped their way back, cutting the advantage to nine at halftime, 33-24. Zion Neat led the Rams in the first half with 11 points and six rebounds.
Second Half: CIU 87 SAU 71: CIU was outscored in the third quarter 30-17 by the Knights, and St. Andrews held a 54-50 lead at the end of three. CIU exploded for 37 points in the fourth finishing the game on a 10-4 run. Jordin McQueen scored six points in the quarter, but Zion Neat was impressive with 14 points in the final period. CIU also padded their steal total down the stretch adding six takeaways late in the contest.
Game Notes:
- Zion Neat set the CIU freshman single-game scoring record as the Texas native scored 27 points. Neat recorded 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. The freshman was also key late, knocking down crucial free throws going 9-9 from the line for the game.
- Jordin McQueen continues a noteworthy first season as a CIU Ram scoring 20 points on 8-15 shooting.
- Britney Brown led the Rams in steals with five while also scoring six points.
- Hannah Trawick once again played an important role off the bench scoring six points and garnering seven rebounds.
- CIU had 21 steals and forced 28 turnovers. The performance was the second most steals by a team in program history, second only to a 23 steal game by the Rams in 2019. CIU had a notable eight players record a steal during the contest.
- CIU is on pace for their best home record ever as the Rams are now 6-2 in the Moore Fitness Center.
