Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | gfrierson

CIU outpaced by Reinhardt in 107-76 loss

COLUMBIA, S.C – The CIU women's basketball two-game win streak came to an abrupt halt on Saturday as the Rams were downed by the Reinhardt University Eagles (6-4). CIU (9-11) played the Eagles close in a game during the early portion of the season but struggled against Reinhardt this Saturday afternoon. Ultimately CIU would give up the most points in a game in program history, stumbling 107-76 versus the Eagles.

How It Happened:

First Half: RU 56 CIU 33: The Rams troubles started from the opening tip as CIU lost the first quarter an astounding 31-6. However, despite the deficit, CIU would bounce back in the second quarter. The Rams outscored the Eagles 27-25 in the second period behind Jordan Sprueill and Zion Neat who each had eight in the quarter. CIU trailed 56-33 at the break in large part to the exceptional shooting by the Eagles as Reinhardt went 24-39 (61%) from the field for the half.

Second Half: Ru 107 CIU 76: The Eagles did not take their foot off the gas pedal in the second half. Reinhardt led 86-55 at the end of three despite a better start to the half for CIU as the Rams went 8-18 from the field in the third quarter. Hannah Trawick was once again a bright spot off the bench for CIU in the fourth period as Trawick scored six points and had two rebounds in the fourth. CIU and Reinhardt each scored 21 points in the final quarter as CIU was handed the 107-76 loss.

Game Notes:

  • Freshman Zion Neat led the Rams in scoring with 16 points shooting 50% from the field, and added six rebounds.
  • Veteran Jordan Sprueill added to her double-double count as the graduate student scored 15 points and recorded 10 rebounds.
  • Junior transfer Jordin McQueen had a hard-fought 12 points during her 32:00 minutes of playing time.
  • Madison Ferrara couldn't find the bottom of the net from 3-point range, but the sophomore was able to get into double figures with 12 points.
  • Turnovers hurt CIU, especially in the first half as the Rams finished with 24 giveaways for the game.
