COLUMBIA, SC- The CIU softball team continued conference play against the Montreat College Cavaliers on Thursday afternoon. With doubleheaders starting at 3 & 5 PM, the Rams looked to continue their conference win streak. Despite a tight second game versus the Cavaliers, CIU would ultimately concede the series to Montreat College.Â
Game 1: CIU 1 Montreat College 7Â
How It Happened:Â
- The Cavaliers jumped out to an early lead in the 1st inning, off a homer to right-center field.Â
- The game remained gridlocked until the 4th inning as Montreat extended their lead with an RBI single making it 2-0.Â
- The Rams batters managed to draw within one of Montreat, as Shannon Patton hit a sacrifice fly in the 6th inning to score Tanya Ellis.Â
- Despite a late-game push from the Rams, Montreat college was able to score five runs in the 6th inning, jumping out to a commanding 7-1 lead, which was enough to put away CIU in the first game.Â

How It HappenedÂ
- CIU gave up the first run of the day in the 1st inning off of an error, giving Montreat a 1-0 lead.Â
- The game was at a stalemate as a pitching duel ensued. Sophomore Alicia Wallick would give up only three hits, one run, and strike out two batters on the day.Â
- Montreat held onto a 1-0 lead heading into the top of the 7th, as CIU attempted to even the score. Freshman Kaitlynn Creel would get into scoring position at third, looking to tie the game. However, the Montreat pitching proved too much as the Cavaliers managed to hold onto the lead to come out on top over the Rams.Â
