West Point, GA- The CIU Softball team traveled to West Point, GA, to battle conference foe Point University. After a back and forth battle in the first bout, the Rams managed to steal the second game, ending conference competition for the remainder of the month.
Game One: CIU 2 PU 4
How It Happened:
- The Skyhawks would score first in the 2nd inning, scoring two runs off of a sacrifice ground out and a single.
- Point would score yet again in the bottom of the 4th off an RBI single down the right-field line.
- The Rams struggled to get the bat on the ball through four innings, but that changed in the 5th inning as Kayla Washington would get on base with a single to left-center. Later in the side, freshman Shannon Patton dinged a two-run homer over the center-field fence to draw within one of Point University.
- The Skyhawks responded to the Rams two-run homer in the bottom of the 5th, scoring a run off a sacrifice bunt from Michelle Donner.
- Despite a late 5th inning surge and solid defensive play, the Rams weren't able to overcome the Skyhawks in game one, coming up just short with a final score of 4-2.

Game 2: CIU 1 PU 0
How It Happened:
- The Rams got to work early in the game, with a homer from freshman Shannon Patton giving CIU a 1-0 lead. This was Patton's second homer of the day, as she hit her first dinger in the first game.
- A pitching duel ensued as both Rams' and Skyhawks' pitchers were untouchable on the mound. Sophomore Alicia Wallick got the start on the mound for CIU, giving up only four hits, and striking out two batters.
- The Rams would try and extend their lead in the 7th, getting Kayla Washington on base with a single to shallow left-center. Washington stole second, but her efforts would render fruitless as CIU would line out on the next two at-bats.
- Point University attempted to rally in the bottom of the 7th, but stiff CIU defense prevailed as the Rams edged the Skyhawks 1-0.

Per the Appalachian Athletic Conferences decision Friday morning, CIU Softball will halt all intercollegiate competitions until April 5th due to the COVID-19 outbreaks taking place in the United States. The AAC, NCCAA, and CIU are monitoring the situation closely. The Rams are scheduled to host Columbia College on April 9th.
