COLUMBIA, SC – Coming off a marquee win over Milligan College on Wednesday night, the CIU women's basketball team faced another tall task in the form of the number #22 Reinhardt University Eagles. The Rams and Eagles met earlier this season with the first contest going Reinhardt's way. CIU would make a run late in the game, but the Rams were unable to overcome an earlier deficient and fell 59-46. The Rams also honored their seniors Saturday night and would see big nights out of their two honorees Jay Mazyck and Jordan Sprueill.
How It Happened:
First Half RU 28 CIU 14: Both teams scored a combined 1-point in the first 5:00 minutes of the game. The Rams would finally get on the board on a Larissa Lee layup. CIU trailed 14-4 at the end of the first quarter but would get back on track in the second quarter behind Tiona Walls inside and outside shooting from Jay Mazyck. The Rams trailed 28-14 at the half.
Second Half RU 59 CIU 46: CIU would be able to get more points on the board in the second half. Six third-quarter points from Jordan Sprueill gave the Rams momentum but still trailed: 42-24 at the end of three. Behind Jay Mazyck, the Rams got as close to the Eagles as 46-32 in the final quarter. However, Reinhardt would pull away, but a Kiara Austin deep ball late made the final score 59-46.
