Baseball Finishes Weekend Series at Georgia Gwinnett

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga – The CIU Rams baseball team wrapped its weekend series with Toccoa Falls College and Georgia Gwinnett College on Saturday. The Rams took on Toccoa Falls in the morning and Georgia Gwinnett in the afternoon. After knocking off the Eagles yesterday and playing a close game with the Grizzlies, CIU would drop both games today. The Rams leave the weekend with a record of 5-7 looking to get back in the win column in their home opener.  

GAME ONE: TFC 9 CIU 6

  • The Rams got on the board in the first inning after the bat of Shane Hammonds drove Alex Miller home on a double play.
  • CIU would fall in a 3-1 hole, but a Joshua Hernandez singled ignited a run in the top the 2nd to help CIU retake the lead 4-2.
  • Micah Sanders running for Hernandez scored a run on an Alex Miller line drive in the top of the 4th.
  • Off a Carter Willis sacrifice fly Hunter Coleman scored the final run for the Rams to cut the Eagles lead to 7-6, but it wouldn't be enough to bring the Rams back.

Game Notes

  • The Ram's RBI leader Joshua Hernandez picked up his 11th RBI on the season.
  • CIU is now 4-2 against NCCAA opponents.
  • Trent Polly had two strikeouts in two innings.

GAME TWO: GGC 11-0

  • Micah Sanders was the first batter on base for the Rams after being walked in the 2nd inning.
  • Tyler Parker notched his first strikeout of the game in the bottom of the third.
  • Gaven Causey and Alex Miller singled in the top of the 4th.
  • After a Joshua Hernandez double, Jeb Wilkinson reached third base as a pinch-runner in the top of the 6th.
  • Hernandez picked up two strikeouts from the mound in the Rams' final defensive stand at the bottom of the 6th.

Game Notes:

  • Five of the Rams' first twelve games have been against a ranked NAIA opponent.
  • Despite giving up a plethora of runs in Rams pitching group had six strikeouts.
  • Joshua Hernandez had his second double of the season.

Up Next:

The Rams return home for their first-ever game at home on Monday, February 17th versus USC-Salkehatchie at 1 PM.
