Women's Basketball tested by Keiser to start Florida road trip

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – After finishing up their December conference slate on Saturday, the CIU women's basketball started a non-conference road trip to Florida on Tuesday. The Rams begin their time in the sunshine state by challenging the Keiser Unversity Seahawks. The matchup was the first meeting between the teams, as Keiser University came into the contest boasting a two-game win streak with a record of 2-4. The Seahawks stayed hot, dispatching the Rams 89-55 as CIU falls to 4-6 on the season.

How It Happened:

First Half KU 49 CIU 23: The Seahawks set the game's tone, starting the first quarter on a 20-3 run. CIU would then go on a 10-0 run of their own thanks to 4 points from Jordan Sprueill at the end of the quarter. The Rams started the second quarter only down 20-13 but got outscored in the second 29-10. The Seahawks led 49-23 going into the half, shooting 42.9 percent from deep knocking down six triples.

Second Half: KU 89 CIU 55: The second half proved a bit kinder to the Rams but they were still outscored in the third quarter. CIU would win the fourth quarter 17-14 but couldn't close the gap between themselves and Keiser. Though the Rams struggled from the field in the second half, they were able to knock 11 of 14 free throws going 78% from the foul line.

Game Notes:
  • Jordin McQueen got to double figures yet again this season with 10 points and 3 assists.
  • 2019-2020 All-AAC selection Jordan Sprueill stayed solid for CIU with 7 rebounds and 6 points while going a perfect 2-2 from the field.
  • CIU was able to force 19 turnovers but gave up 10 or more three-pointers for the second game in a row as the Seahawks shot a blistering 12-23 (52%) from beyond the arc.
What Coach Fleming is saying:
"Not the prettiest game for us this year. We have to be better defensively tomorrow to give ourselves a chance against Webber."
