BABSON PARK Fla. – After a challenging game against Keiser University, the day before, the CIU women's basketball team went head to head with another Sun Conference opponent. The Rams faced off against the Webber International Warriors, who entered the contest with a record of 6-1. While the Warriors boasted a better winning percentage, the Rams took care of business on Webber's home court. CIU knocked off the Warriors 73-68 to move to 4-6 overall.
How It Happened:
First Half: CIU 30 WIU 24: The Rams and Warriors played a tight first quarter. CIU trailed 8-9 with 4:00 minutes remaining, but scores from
Hannah Trawick and
Tiona Walls put the Rams up 13-9 at the end of one. The Rams started the second quarter on a 5-0 run and led by as much as 10 points, 21-11 after two
Zion Neat free throws. The Warriors were able to cut into the lead before the half as CIU took a 30-24 advantage into halftime.
Zion Neat had 5 points and 4 rebounds to lead the Rams in the first half.
Second Half: CIU 73 WIU 68: Jordin McQueen was huge for the Rams in the third quarter scoring 11 points as CIU took a 54-41 lead into the fourth quarter. The Warriors were able to get as close as 66-62 in the final period with 1:35. However, the Rams were able to stave off a comeback taking a 73-68 win.
Game Notes:
- Zion Neat stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
- Jordin McQueen and Queeneka Howard both scored double-digits as McQueen scored 14 points on 5-7 shooting while Howard dropped 10 points on the Warriors.
- Jordan Sprueill was once again formidable with 6 points and 7 rebounds.
- The Rams shot 49% from the field and 52% from three-point range as 5 different players knocked down a triple.
