GAINESVILLE, Ga. – CIU Volleyball Coach Amber Haver reached a milestone on Tuesday night as the third year coached increased her conference win total for the second straight season. They took down the Brenau Golden Tigers, 3-0 on the road to move to 10-5 on the season. This is the first double-digit win season in Appalachian Athletic Conference play for the Rams as CIU won nine matches in the conference last year. The win is the Rams second over the Golden Tigers as CIU beat Brenau just three days priors as CIU knocked of their conference foe this past Saturday.
How It Happened:
Set One: CIU actually found themselves trailing 17-16 in the first set. However, consecutive kills from Alana Sanjurjo would get the Rams back on track to take a 1-point advantage as they then overpowered Brenau 25-22.
Set Two: In the second set, CIU once again found themselves deadlocked with the Golden Tigers this time at 13-13. The Rams exploded for 9 unanswered points in part to 3 kills from Camri Goodwin and a Kamelia De Jesus ace. Megan Lung then ended the set with a powerful kill giving CIU a 25-19 win.
Set Three: CIU was led by Kamelia De Jesus in the final set as the freshman setter had three aces. The Rams steamed rolled Brenau 25-13 as they Alana Sanjurjo and Camri Goodwin both had 4 kills in the third set.
Game Notes:
- Camri Goodwin had an excellent night with 6 kills, a .500 hitting percentage, and 2 aces.
- Milijana Zmuric was solid both attacking and defensively as the Serbian national had 9 kills and 3 blocks.
- Reigning NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week Kamelia De Jesus had 36 assists and 3 aces.
- Alana Sanjurjo and Megan Lung had 9, and 8 kills, respectively while Sanjurjo also had 11 digs.
- The Rams continue their serving prowess picking up 9 aces as a team.
- The NCCAA Power Ratings released November 10th have CIU at their highest power ranking ever at #4 in the country.
