Rams Edged By Skyhawks

COLUMBIA, SC - The CIU women's soccer team was back on the pitch tonight as they hosted the Point University Skyhawks. The Rams come into tonight's game 2-3-2, after tying the Montreat Cavaliers on Wednesday. After a hard-fought battle, the Rams could not overcome the Skyhawks of Point, losing by narrow margins of 2-1. 

The Rams also celebrated senior night on Saturday, honoring three seniors before the match. Seniors included Janna Rickenbaker, McKenzie Miller, and Abi Bridge

Key Plays 
First Half 

  • 39:50 The Rams got up early on the Skyhawks in the first half after a quick score from Haley Hernandez. Hernandez was assisted after Taylor Kyle dished her the ball off of a deflected shot in the box.  
  • 21:44 PU forward Marissa Amaya rattled off a shot that was saved by CIU goalkeeper Nadia Threatt

Second Half 

  • 38:03 CIU looked to control the contest's momentum in the second half after a save by Nadia Threatt in the 38th and 27th minute held the PU offense at bay. 
  • 20:05 Despite solid goalkeeping by CIU, the Skyhawks would equalize with a quick score from Kelly Carlisle from a deflected shot off the post. 
  • 11:44 The Skyhawks continued to put pressure on the Rams and found the go ahead goal from Tamia Jones. Jones was assisted by Carmen Kager on the play, giving Point University a 2-1 lead. 
  • 3:42 Despite an excellent shot from CIU midfielder Taylor Kyle, the Rams would fall to Point University by a score of 2-1. 

Key Players 
CIU Forward Haley Hernandez 

  • Hernandez scored CIU's lone goal of the game. She also returned to the pitch after being shaken up on a play late in the first half, and finished out the rest of the game.

The Rams look for their 3rd win of the season against Reinhardt University on Wednesday, 28th at 5 PM.
